CNN anchor Don Lemon fired back at network contributor Matt Lewis telling him “shut up” on Tuesday evening during a heated debate over what constitutes a “mob” after Republican Senator Ted Cruz and his wife were chased out of a restaurant.
Lewis had been formally invited on Lemon’s show, “CNN Tonight,” where the conservative Daily Beast columnist claimed that the Tea Party “didn’t hound people out of restaurants” as was the case with Cruz this past month or Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen during the summer.
“The Tea Party did hound people. The Tea Party people hounded me when I went out to cover them!” Lemon responded. “And do you know what I said? It was their right to do it because they’re Americans!”
“Don, if they started following you around a restaurant and running you out of places,” Lewis shot back.
“But that doesn’t mean that people don’t get to object,” Lemon interjected. “That’s your right as an American to object. It’s covered in the First Amendment. It’s like the first one!”
After several verbal jests regarding the true definition of a mob, Lemon snapped.
“Will you let me finish? Matt, please! Let me finish,” Lemon stated.
“Bring it on. Mind if I have a drink?” Lewis questioned.
“You can do whatever you want. You can leave the show if you want,” Lemon responded.
“I’m not going to do that,” Lewis said.
“Shut up and let me do it,” Lemon said.
“Thank you very much,” the anchor added. “In the Constitution, you can protest whenever and wherever you want. It doesn’t tell you that you can’t do it in a restaurant, that you can’t do it on a football field. It doesn’t tell you that you can’t do it on a cable news you can do it wherever you want.”
“To call people mobs because they are exercising their constitutional right is just beyond the pale,” Lemon finished.
Here’s what Americans had to say about the whole ordeal:
Trump's despicable band of RACE SOLDIERS attending his rallies shouting "LOCK HER UP, LOCK HER UP," led by him, the criminal Mob Boss & Grand Wizard of the GOP, is my definition of a "mob" ‼️

The daily onslaught of Republican rhetoric, hey, that's okay. Things like Pizzagate, not their fault. But let some sexually assaulted victims try and protest and suddenly they are an "angrey mob". Well I foresee a lot more women for @SenMajLdr Mitchy Jr. to deal with.
